Hmm... I suppose Ninjas do have some wizardy traits.
More than pirates, anyway.

I say that Musketeers are the coolest semi-fictional group of all, and I will maintain the truth of that with my body and swordarm.
And by that, I mean I'll play a match of Soul Calibur II or III against you using Raphael.

Well, Porthos was a pirate, and thus Musketeers can be considered a part of the pirate camp.... I'm pretty certain none of them were ninja.

Since when was Porthos a pirate? Last I checked, he was a very tall guy who was a great swordsman, braggart, womanizer, and gold-digger who later manage to become a baron (though his aristocratic neighbours refuse to have anything to do with the nouveau riche soldier or his low-born wife). And the only other Porthos I can think of is a dog owned by a certain French starship captain who sounds vaguely English.

great swordsman, braggart, womanizer, and gold-digger that's the dictionary definition of pirate.

Seven hells, Porthos set foot on a boat maybe twice in his bloody life! And what kind of pirate would devote his life to the service of a king?
Enough. I can see there is no reasoning with you. May R'lyeh rise beneath your ships and the spawn of Cthulu flay the flesh from your bones.

Can we just agree that the Musketeers are cool guys but pirates are cooler, and leave it at that?
(Although Antondevey had a point ^_~)

Musketeers are pirates of the land, with the king as their captain. Simple as that.
And I do agree that pirates are cooler than musketeers. I think it's the relative coolness of *ninjas* and pirates where the most debate lies.

No debate to be had. In a 'real' standard, pirates are cooler, beacuse they are real. Head into fiction, and ninja get a couple of quick advantages. Head further into the realm of fiction, such that pirates gain mystic powers as well, and they become cooler again.

Yeah, I agree with that. Superninjas = SuperPirates > Ninjas > Pirates > RealPirates > RealNinjas. Seven hells, Porthos set foot on a boat maybe twice in his bloody life! And what kind of pirate would devote his life to the service of a king? The word you're looking for is "Privateer." In short: King: "Hey, pirates! Go mess with the people who I don't like!"

"......and in exchange I won't have my navy shoot you!"
A detail, yes. But an important detail.
