I watched the Hellsing OVA with great anticipaton, but couldn't help getting somewhat let down... I can't stop feeling that this isn't Hellsing anymore as I see it.
1. The first thing I was annoyed of was the fact that they (almost litterary) run through the whole episode. It has lost the spooky charm of the slow-paced first series and... I'm one that have few problems understanding a story, but if I watched Hellsing for the first time with this OAV, I'd see a 30 min long bloodfest.
I just can't accept this as Hellsing.
2. This is closely linked to the above post. I can't feel that they deliberatly skipped several important plotthreads in order to make this bloodfest. Sacrificing the drama on the altar to be able to make all the action.
3. Though I whine about the fast-paced story, I can't help but to think that even though the story was too fast-paced, the action was slow-paced. I figure this was meant to tell the audience of Alucards Love for battle, but it feels frustrating when you look at it.
4... You might lynch me for saying this but I think Anderson was a bit over top, he plays the role of the fanatic well, but I can't stop feeling like it isn't Anderson as it should be. He's just a bit too crazy.
But again, there are many good points in all of this.
1. The characters are very well portrayed. You can really feel Alucards passion for battle, feel Integras cold commanding tone and that she is used to people following the orders she give. And Walters... almost creepy presence that I think they didn't do justice in the first series.
2. They manage to match the black humor in the manga and use it often(, which was funny), though I can't help to think that the big contrast often kicks the feet from underneath you.
Well.. this is what I think about it. I have more things to point out, but I think they'll be closer to whine than this already is.
